Fatima is hoped that the third seer of the Marian apparitions of 1917 is beatified during the Jubilee Year for the 100th anniversary of the apparitions. As of May 13, 1917 Mary appeared near the Portuguese village to three shepherd children. Mary is always appeared on the thirteenth of the month, from 13 May to 13 October 1917. In 1919 built the first chapel in Fatima. Then it took until June 1927 before local Bishop of Leira is dedicated to the Eucharist. A year later laid the foundation stone of the basilica. In 1930, the church leaders gave the green light for the devotion to Mary in Fatima.
Two of the three seers blessed
Pope John Paul II declared the two shepherd children, Jacinta and Francisco Marto, blessed in May 2000. She deceased in 1920, three years after the apparitions. It for their beatification process has already started in 1946. The last of the little shepherds and seer of Fatima, Sister Maria Lucia dos Santos, who lived retired in a monastery in Portugal, died in 2005 at the age of nearly 98 years.
The process for the beatification of Sister Lucia was opened in 2008. Some hope that Jacinta and Francisco Marto be canonized during the jubilee. But it is widely expected that the three shepherd children – provided the beatification of Maria Lucia – be declared holy wil together.
