Bible Story of the Day

The entire Bible is a revelation about Jesus Christ. From beginning to end, Jesus can be found in the text within. Seeing Jesus in scripture is a major step into understanding who our God is, and how He impacts and affects our lives in every moment. My desire through this Bible story of the day project is to show you the reference to Jesus in the Old Testament, and how the story can impact your life. My references will be posted at the bottom along with links that can help you dive deeper into the story than what I have done here. Open your heart and mind and be willing to accept scripture for what it says. If you don’t understand a story or verse or how it applies to your life, then pray to God for clarity and understanding. I pray this helps and affects your life and you have a better understanding of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Levitical Priests (Descendants of Levi)

Deuteronomy 18:1-5

“The Levitical priests, the whole tribe of Levi, shall have no portion or inheritance with Israel; they shall eat the Lord’s offerings by fire and His portion. They shall have no inheritance among their countrymen; the Lord is their inheritance, as He promised them.

“Now this shall be the priests’ due from the people, from those who offer a sacrifice, either an ox or a sheep, of which they shall give to the priest the shoulder and the two cheeks and the stomach. You shall give him the first fruits of your grain, your new wine, and your oil, and the first shearing of your sheep. For the Lord your God has chosen him and his sons from all your tribes, to stand and serve in the name of the Lord forever. (NASB).

Where is Jesus and What Does This Mean to Us?

If you are anything like I was then if you have read the Bible, then you probably avoided the Book of Deuteronomy as much as possible. I wouldn’t say this is the hardest book to understand, but it can certainly be confusing to new and veteran believers, alike. Do not fear what you at first do not understand. All scripture is beneficial. There is an immense amount of good news, and it is Jesus Christ. In this story, the Levitical priests represent Jesus. These are descendants from Levi, son of Jacob(Israel). God designated them, through Moses, to be the religious figures of the nation of Israel. The people would go to the Levities for spiritual concerns, and the priests would go to God on behalf of the people. They were the “in-between” for God and man. Men were not worthy to go before God because of their sinful nature, so God designated the Levities to be the ones that were worthy to be the representatives. They fulfilled that role until Jesus died on the cross and became the “in-between” for God and man.

What does that mean for us? It means we, the people, no longer need any person to go to God on our behalf. Every, single one of us can go directly to Jesus with any of our issues, concerns, sins, repentance, and Jesus takes care of them. Jesus sits on the right hand of the Father. The only way to the Father is through Jesus Christ, and we are able to speak to Him directly! That is amazing news. We no longer need a pastor, or priest, or elder, or parent, or friend or anyone else to take our problems before the Lord. We can do that ourselves. You have the exact same access to God, our Creator, as I do. There is no need for sacrifices. There is no need for burnt offerings. Jesus took care of all of that. Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice for all sin past, present, and future. You have already been forgiven of your sin through Christ on the cross. Now you must repent of those sins by turning away from those ways and surrendering yourself to Jesus Christ.

The Levitical priests were an amazing introduction to the nation of Israel, so that the people could connect with God. However, Jesus Christ is a better way, and no one on this earth can keep you from a relationship with Jesus, except yourself. The choice is yours. Your Savior is waiting, patiently, for you.
