Bible Story of the Day

Scripture is the story of Jesus, from Genesis to Revelation. There are over 400 prophecies and representations of Jesus in the Old Testament alone. The Old Testament pointed forward to the coming Christ, and the New Testament points back to Jesus. The Bible is a record of redemption through Jesus Christ who conquered sin and death when He died on the cross and resurrected three days later. The New Testament was written almost 2000 years ago. Some of the Old Testament was written over 4000 years ago. The Bible Story of the Day not only shows Jesus throughout scripture but shows how scripture is relevant to our lives today. Seeing Jesus in scripture is a major step into understanding who our God is, and how He impacts and affects our lives in every moment. I pray that the Holy Spirit opens your mind to understanding the verses and how they affect your life and gives you a better understanding of our Lord Jesus Christ. I will post a link to the chapter that each passage is from, so that you can read further on your own.

The Blood of the Lamb

Leviticus 17:10-12

10 ‘And any man from the house of Israel, or from the aliens who sojourn among them, who eats any blood, I will set My face against that person who eats blood and will cut him off from among his people. 11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood by reason of the life that makes atonement.’ 12 Therefore I said to the sons of Israel, ‘No person among you may eat blood, nor may any alien who sojourns among you eat blood.’ (NASB).

Where is Jesus and What Does This Mean to Us?

Did that just say if I eat the blood of an animal I will be cut off from God’s people? The short answer is yes. However, there are aspects of the Old Testament we must understand first. The people were under a different covenant at that time. A covenant is a contract or agreement between man and God. We are no under a “new covenant” since Jesus has come, died, and resurrected. There were several covenants made in the Old Testament. The covenant covering the time of this passage is called the Mosaic Covenant. This covenant introduced the Laws to the people. This is where we get the 10 Commandments, among hundreds of other laws. The point of this passage was that God wanted the people to understand the importance of the blood sacrifice for the atonement of sin, because of the coming Christ that would spill His blood for the atonement of all our sins.

Thank God, literally, that we no longer must sacrifice animals for our sins. Jesus took care of that for us. The lamb, bull, goat, or whatever animal that was sacrificed was never sufficient to atone for the sin of men. God knew this. He was showing them that nothing we could do would be enough to overcome the sin we have and the impending death that was sure to come. The sacrifice was a representation of the ultimate sacrifice that would come. Jesus was that ultimate sacrifice.

What does this mean to us? Jesus is the physical representation of God, our Father in Heaven. Jesus was fully God and fully man. He came to earth to reestablish the connection between us and God. The only way that could happen is if Jesus died for our sins to pay the price that we owed. We deserved death. Jesus took the punishment we deserved so that instead of death we could have life. Since God is unable to die, and man deserves death on his own, and can’t take the punishment for anyone else; God sent His son Jesus to be the bridge. He could be perfect, because He is God, and He could die, because He is man. Jesus was the final blood sacrifice ever needed to atone for my sins, your sins, and everyone before us. Jesus sacrificed Himself for us. He loves us. Have you ever had anyone sacrifice anything for you? They most likely did it because they care about you. What if someone died for you? Surely, we would safely say they loved you to sacrifice so much. This is Jesus. He loves you and wants a relationship with you. The pathway has been made; now all that remains is that you walk down that path to Him, that loves you so.
