Bible Story of the Day

Scripture is the story of Jesus, from Genesis to Revelation. There are over 400 prophecies and representations of Jesus in the Old Testament alone. The Old Testament pointed forward to the coming Christ, and the New Testament points back to Jesus. The Bible is a record of redemption through Jesus Christ who conquered sin and death when He died on the cross and resurrected three days later. The New Testament was written almost 2000 years ago. Some of the Old Testament was written over 4000 years ago. The Bible Story of the Day not only shows Jesus throughout scripture but shows how scripture is relevant to our lives today. Seeing Jesus in scripture is a major step into understanding who our God is, and how He impacts and affects our lives in every moment. I pray that the Holy Spirit opens your mind to understanding the verses and how they affect your life and gives you a better understanding of our Lord Jesus Christ. I will post a link to the chapter that each passage is from, so that you can read further on your own.

Enoch in Genesis 5

Genesis 5:21-24

21 Enoch lived sixty-five years and became the father of Methuselah.22 Then Enoch walked with God three hundred years after he became the father of Methuselah, and he had other sons and daughters. 23 So all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years. 24 Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him. (NASB).

Where is Jesus and What Does This Mean to Us?

Genesis chapter 5 covers a significant amount of ancestry. Genesis 5 occurs before the Great Flood, where most men lived over 700 years old. This section can be a boring read for some until verse 24, then something very unusual happens. Enoch did not die. He was taken from this earth by God. Enoch would have been just another name in the Book of Genesis except for this small detail. The first strange part is that he was taken from earth at about half the age of any other man that died during that time. The next strange phrase is that he “walked with God”. That term had not been used since Adam and Eve walked with God before the Fall when the two sinned. Finally, what does it mean “God took him” or “that he was not”? These are not words that are commonly used in scripture. There is much untold about Enoch, but we can be sure that he is remarkable.

Enoch can be said to represent Jesus in this passage on several accounts. Enoch was no more at about half the average age of death in his time. Jesus died at 33 years old, which was about half the age of the average death of His time. Enoch left this earth in a miraculous way that could only be done by God. Jesus, likewise, left this earth in a miraculous way as well. Jesus died, resurrected, then ascended to Heaven. Enoch walked with God, which is a term used regarding one’s true faith. Sinful, disobedient people do not “walk with God”. Only one determined righteous, and that lives for God’s will could walk with God. Adam did before He sinned. Enoch did. Jesus did, because He was one with the Father.

What does this mean to us? It means God is the Lord, Creator, and Master of this world. He is capable of anything. He can take someone from this earth without them dying and He can raise someone from the dead. Whatever struggles we face, we can overcome them with and through God. We are called to put our faith in Him. That is where the term walking with God comes from. When we walk with God we surrender our lives to God for His will to be done, not ours. Enoch devoted his life to God. Jesus gave His life to God. We are called to walk with God, not chase after Him; not sit and watch Him, and not forsake Him. Jesus gave us the way to become righteous, and capable of walking with God. What is keeping you from walking with God today?

You may want to reread Hebrews 11,

It states “these all died NOT having received the promise”, and none of those of old have preceded those in the days of Paul as all will be given the promise of eternal life at the same time.

And If Enoch was taken to heaven that is a spirit realm and one must be spirit to be in the 3rd heaven and if that is the case then Christ is not the first born.

There is more but show me the scripture stating the reward is heaven, I have studied for many decades and never found one statement regarding going to heaven.

Jesus existed in the beginning with the Father, but was born in the flesh 2000 years ago. Enoch only began existence when he was born in the flesh roughly 5000 years ago. As far as Heaven goes, we may go there or it may come here, but there is a specific place, and in John 14:2-4, Jesus states that He is going there to prepare “His Father’s house” for us. We can call it what we will, but whatever you want to call God’s house sounds like a place I want to be.

I know I am blunt – and I know that offends but when I see folks twist scripture to fit their doctrines I am only able to be blunt.

I use every single scripture I can find to understand doctrine.

Jesus Christ states in Revelation and in the 4 Gospels that the Saints of God will rule with Him on HIS Throne , What Christ returned to heaven to do — is prepare positions of authority in the government of God and thus in the Household (Family) of God the Father.

We are to rule as kings and lords with Christ here on earth — “the meek shall inherit the earth” not the 3rd heaven — the 3rd heaven belongs to God the Father.

King David will rule over all 12 tribes and the 12 apostles will each rule one tribe.

What I have come to accept as the true places me in the .005 % of what is called christianity and that will not change.

I have come to see God is the LAW giver and the LAW is HIS divine Nature.
God never deviates from the Law,

when Jesus Christ who had no sin took upon Himself the sins of the world He was put to death for those sins. Sin demands the shedding of blood- period – and that will never change.

I doubt you will agree with most of the doctrines I espouse but I would hope you would study to prove or disprove them for your self.

An eschatological aside, it was always interesting to me was how Enoch and Elijah were taken, alive, and how there are the two witnesses of Revelation slain, in light of this verse:

Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.

We know Elijah is prophesied, prior to the Day of the Lord, which is still future, not referring to the Lord Jesus’ first coming as the God-Man and John the Baptist being in the spirit of Elijah, not the person Elijah, Luke 1:17, John 1:21, and, what do you know, Elijah didn’t die once, yet. Nor Enoch.

I much admired the late Grant Jeffrey, and some others, but wonder how they come to the conclusion the two witnesses are Moses and Elijah, merely for the Mount of Transfiguration incident, when we have exactly two men of God that did not die, back when. And Moses dying twice? There seems some disharmony there.

      Anyway, nice article. Thank you!

Titus 2:13-15 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.

1 Thessalonians 5:9-10 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

John 14:1-3 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

Revelation 3:10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

Luke 21:36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

13 These “”ALL”"” died in faith, NOT having received the promises,

either both Enoch and Elijah are dead or Paul does not know what he is talking about.

Has God ever restored one of the men He has used in the past back to physical life to fulfill a future prophecy?

        I know of none.

The way of God is; “what has been will be”— the first two witnesses were Moses and his brother Aaron both of the tribe of Levi, it is very possible the final two witnesses will be brothers of the tribe of Levi.

Do you understand why there are two witnesses? before a person can be put to death there must be two witnesses testifying as to the person’s guilt.

As Moses and Aaron came before the rules of Egypt and demanded “Let My people Go” so will the final two witnesses come before the Beast and the false prophet i.e. the pope and demand they also must “let My people go”.

The remnant of the nations of the house of Israel will be in captivity in gentile nations.

God is not going to use two men from 3 or 4000 thousand years ago to confront the Beast, the two witnesses are alive today and understand the world we live in but do not know they will soon be called and pushed into this position.

I would feel very sorry for those witnesses if you are correct about them seeing the world differently. I received salvation a couple of years ago and my perception on everything changed. The world is a very very very dark place indeed. I have explained about what salvation is a couple of times but you attacked me everytime bless ya lol. It’s ok though because it could of been worse, look how the world treated Jesus when he shined his light lol. But yeah, like I said, fuck knows how the two witnesses see things. Even I feel sad everytime I look at another person. Everyone walks around like an unlite candle, so sad.

Thanks Anonymous. I agree about Moses being one of the 2 that return. He would have to die twice. in Jude 1:9 we know that Moses did in fact die. I always figured it would be the 2 that have not yet died, Elijah and Enoch, since we know the 2 that return will die, and we all deserve death, no mention of deserving 2 deaths. Like you said, that would be some disharmony to say the least.

Lazarus died twice and those that rose from the grave when Christ was slain also died twice.

Again, I do not see any thing that states the two witnesses will be resurrected saints of old.

God does not do things by the wave of a magic wand, God took 80 years to prepare Moses, the ark was built board by board.

” What is keeping you from walking with God today?”

When the Apostles “walked” with Christ they followed Torah Law as did Jesus Christ , they kept the 7th Day Sabbath and all of God’s Holy Feasts and the clean and unclean meats statute etc.

      Do you?
