Eighth Station: Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem

We adore you O Christ and we praise you

Because by your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world.

Jesus you came into Jerusalem with Hosanna’s ringing in your ears, a hero’s welcome! Now Jerusalem is filled with the wailing, mournful cries of the women of Jerusalem. Such a change, such a fickle humanity!

You speak to the women, you challenge them to think about the sincerity of these mourning cries. In the face of evil, we can all say how awful, and feel that that is enough, it is for others to make a difference, to make a change. We can shake our heads, but sometimes we have to make the difference. Jesus is being crucified, there is nothing to be done except mourning, but Jesus says there is something you can do: Repent! Change your hearts, and turn to the Lord.

Christianity is not a cosy club we belong to that makes us feel good about ourselves, it is a challenge and a task to keep our gaze upon Christ and follow him in the world. Stand up for the down-trodden, the poor, the outcast, make a difference for the good.

Jesus as you challenge us always with your words, grant me the courage to really listen, and to act in accordance with your commandments.

I love you Jesus my love above all things…
