Prez Obama heading into danger, or running away from it?

Where is the greater security risk: India or America?

From Dateline Zero – As I write this, the Saturday morning news offers this in the major story:

Commercial flights are likely to be delayed by at least an hour when Air Force One, with an escort of three aircraft and five helicopters, touches down at Mumbai airport on Saturday morning. Though officials have yet to receive communication on air-space closure, protocol calls for a gap six minutes during a VVIP visit.

All eyes are on India, and all the security surrounding the President. Indeed, this has brought up a lot of questions, and more than a little suspicion.

This Presidential visit to India has grown into a huge spectacle involving 34 warships, a 3,000 person escort, the presence of 9 aircraft and a security ring of 300 people. An entire hotel has been booked for this visit.

Amusingly, Obama’s personal detail includes his ever-present prompter — sometimes called TOTUS (Teleprompter of the United States). Some people in India are a little perplexed, saying “we thought Obama is a trained orator.”

Welcome to American politics.

No doubt, there are security risks galore. Worry about a “Mumbai-style attack” has been talked about in both the US and the UK news. As the President Obama heads to Mumbai, India Todayhas an article about “the two faces of Obama,” saying that this visit “might only expose a dubious policy as he winks at his wartime ally, Pakistan, with one face and smiles at his peacetime friend, India, with another.” Thus, warning that Obama is blundering foreign policy in a way that could be very damaging, and even dangerous.

So why not call this off? On the other hand, why was this visit to India announced so far ahead of time as to give enemies opportunity to plan something?

That “$200 million a day” claim was made a little while ago. I wonder if it’s actually gone up. This is, after all, the United States Federal Government.

As I said, if there is this kind of danger, why go to India? Moreover, why announce plans to go to India far enough in advance that it allows others to plan something awful? And why is he still going? He could call it off, and meet whoever he wishes to meet elsewhere.

I don’t doubt that President Obama is so totally in love with government and government power that this is likely a great big show of force — as if to say “I won’t be threatened, and I will not be deterred.”

But there could be something else to consider; the trip to India could be a simple case of misdirection.

There’s been speculation that something bad is brewing, and the president is actually heading to a safer place.  This is orchestrated to make it not appear that Obama is heading for cover.

A simple look at what’s been happening here in the United States in just the past 2 months, and you get the feeling that the government has caught wind of something is being planned, and they don’t know what to do about it. Various Federal agencies seem to be flailing their fists, wildly and blindly.

The TSA’s “pat downs” have become grope sessions to force people into the strip-scanning machines…

Backscattter (strip-scanning) devices mounted into street-roving vans…

Backscatter vans being used in suburban neighborhoods…

Random “stop and frisk” program implemented by NYPD…

Aerial drones being used inside the United States…

Police secretly attaching electronic tracking devices to people’s cars…

In the UK, too, strange things are afoot:

Clearly, this all points to a dramatic rise of police state activity in the West; and a rise in State power. But it all seems to sudden, and also so unfocused. This could be visible symptoms of western government agencies who are reacting out of fear.

The Presidential visit to India is going to be watched closely, with people waiting and hoping for the president’s safe return. No doubt, if anything at all happens, people will wonder why he went in the first place.

However, if anything happens domestically everyone in the world will know exactly why President Obama left the United States with a security detail that includes aircraft and warships and a personnel numbering in the thousands.
