Vow to Not Make Human Clones Makes ‘Frankenstein’ Claim Ring Hollow

Naive scientists over the centuries have seen their work on groundbreaking projects turn into things much more perverse than anticipated. That’s why when Boyalife, a Chinese firm working on launching their cloning factory next year, says that they “won’t make Frankenstein,” we should all expect to see them or someone who uses their technology building human clones in the near future.

The real question is whether or not we’ll ever know about it. China is already very much against information leaking out to their own people, let alone the rest of the world, and recently ejected a journalist for publishing a piece that painted their efforts against terrorism in a negative light. Do we really expect that they’ll announce their human cloning victories when they occur?

They say that they want to make prime quality beef. This sounds noble, albeit a little gross, but will the experiments end there? The answer should be obvious. When you start messing with genes, embryos, and creating live tissue that has been modified, it’s inevitable that someone in power will take the research and turn it into something evil. This invariably happens. The nuclear bomb did not come from military research. Most chemical weapons came from medical research. Nearly everything that is designed to kill and destroy today stemmed from science that was designed to somehow benefit humanity and the world.

It may be scary to think that it’s China that is working on this technology, but you should all be aware that China isn’t the only country diving into dangerous research such as this. Things are changing very rapidly for the human race.
