Many people offer beef tenderloin in most recipes around the holidays. But, in our opinion, London Broil is just as special and deserving of the culinary spotlight of your festivities. London Broil in the crockpot excites a soft, juicy, and flavorful beef roast of your holiday dinner dreams.

Moreover, you get to let it cook by itself because it requires just a little preparation, and this gives you enough time to get busy with something else or spend time with your loved ones. This article has recommended great methods to cook London broil in a crockpot for the best possible results.

Tips for Cooking London Broil

When it comes to cooking a London broil, the more information you have at your fingertips, the better your chances of arriving at perfect results with your cooking. As such, we have compiled some really helpful tips you will need:

Buying London broil – This cut of beef is called “London Broil” and may be found in most supermarket stores. Look for flank steak or top round if you don’t see that, and a lower-fat cut of beef also works.

You can always go to your local butcher shop and get one freshly sliced for you. They come in various sizes, but you’ll need a 2-3 pound London broil for the recipe we suggest in this article.

Meat size determines cooking time – If you choose a larger chunk of meat (over 2 pounds), the London broil may need to be cooked longer. When the flesh is fall-apart tender, the roast is ready.

Meat size also means extra seasoning – If your roast is larger, you’ll want to add extra seasonings. Some people have indicated a need to cook London broil on high for 7 to 8 hours for a 4-pound chunk of meat. As such, if the roast is double the size, then you should use double the seasoning.

Brown your meat, only if you like – Some people choose to brown the meat on the stovetop before slow cooking. This allows for added color and tasty flavors to the recipe, but it’s a step that can be skipped. It all depends on how much work you’re willing to do, but if you’re a big fan of extra flavor and moisture, however, don’t skip the browning step.

Low rather than high – When cooking London broil in a crockpot, it is advisable to cook it on the low setting rather than the high one. Every time, your meat will be soft and tasty.

Cooking London Broil in a Crockpot

London Broil, despite its name, is not a British delicacy but rather a North American dish. It generally refers to broiled flank steak, although it can also refer to top round. For simple identification, many labels the chop “London Broil.”

Typically, the meat is marinated for several hours before being seared over high heat in an oven broiler or on an outdoor grill when cooking a London broil. It is then cut into small slices across the grain and served.

You might be asking why slow cooking London broil in a crockpot would be a good option after reading the description of the typical technique for this cut of meat. The truth is that most beef roasts are improved by cooking them for several hours and braising them in their juices and seasonings. Because this cut of meat is leaner, slow cooking results in extremely soft meat, almost falling apart.

Making a London broil does not have to be a complicated one. We have described an ideal cooking method for crockpot London broil below:

  • To begin your cooking, set your crockpot to high heat (You can, however, cook it on low heat if you would like to take your time).
  • After that, go ahead and pour your oil into the cooker, then set the beef roast on top, and toss it over to coat both sides with oil.
  • Then combine the thyme, marjoram, sautéed onions, salt, pepper, and broth, and toss everything together to coat the meat.
  • Cover and cook for 4-5 hours, on high heat, or low for 6-8 hours. Then turn off the heat once the meat is cooked and tender – before you call it done, make sure it’s fork-tender. Leave the roast uncovered for 5 minutes to allow the gravy to thicken.
  • Serve with the gravy on a tray, chopping portions of each plate. This dish goes well with broccoli or any other veggies, and you can serve it alongside potatoes, rice, or noodles if you fancy.
