Operation “Humboldt 290” Nabs Sex Offenders in Violation
Eureka, CA – The U.S. Marshals Service for the Northern District of California led a joint three-day fugitive sex offender apprehension and registration compliance initiative focusing on high-risk offenders.
This three-day initiative, dubbed Operation “Humboldt 290”, resulted in the arrests of 6 sex offenders and the recovery of one juvenile, who was unlawfully residing with a sex offender. Approximately 95% of those contacted were found to be in compliance. Those found to be out of compliance or that had given false information were either arrested or are being investigated further.
The success of this operation was the result of collective efforts from the United States Marshals Service Sex Offender Investigations Branch, the FBI, the Humboldt County Probation Department and the Santa Clara County S.A.F.E. Task Force. Don O’Keefe, U.S. Marshal for the Northern District of California, said: “These types of law enforcement operations are necessary to ensure that our communities are safe and that those who violate are laws and released, are living within the confines of the rules set forth by our local, state, and federal courts. I’d like to thank our partners at the Humboldt County Probation Department, Santa Clara County S.A.F.E. Task Force, and the FBI, they are extremely dedicated and professional groups, and always work hard in trying to help the communities they serve, any way they can.”
