Japan Earthquake of 7.4 magnitude Hits Fukushima

The site of the latest Japan earthquake is the same where a 9.0 magnitude earthquake struck in 2011 resulting in a devastating tsunami.

Japan Earthquake

The JMA (Japan Meteorological Agency) has released a statement saying that the Japan earthquake was an aftershock of the devastating 2011 earthquake.

This is seen as the biggest aftershock of the disaster since the ones experienced in its immediate aftermath. 

Large Earthquake Warning

The Japan Meteorological Agency has simultaneously issued a warning that another big earthquake may be expected in the next few days. 

The agency also advised people in the area as well as the entire region to be vigilant and cautious in the coming days. 

Tsunami Warnings

Tsunami warnings had been issued for Miyagi and Fukushima. There were 1.4 meter high waves recorded at Sendai. 

However, the tsunami warnings have been downgraded. Residents of the area are still warned against visiting the shore. [click to continue]
