What Needs to Be Done to Get Our Economic Engine Going

During 2008-2010, the progressive Democrats and Republicans invested hundreds of billions of dollars, indeed trillions of dollars, to solve national economic problems.  They invested in the national infrastructure to create “shovel-ready” jobs.  However, no such jobs were created in sufficient quantity.  Unemployment hovered around the 9.5% mark for two years.  Now, President Obama wants to invest more money, indeed hundreds of billions of dollars, to solve the problems that the previous investments failed to solve.  What kind of logic is that?

Now, putting your logic hat on, how does investing hundreds of billions of dollars more into failed projects will somehow make them successful this time around?  There is a definition of the word insanity that says insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.  If I were to do that at the household level, i.e., spending more money to get myself out of debt, I would definitely go bankrupt.

President Obama and his wild economic policies caused me to lose my job in July 2009.  It has been 19 months of continuous unemployment.  Instead of wasting all of those hundreds of billions of dollars on infrastructure that actually goes down black holes, why doesn’t Congress just provide unemployed people with either low-interest loans or grants to get new businesses going?  Why don’t they help people to become entrepreneurs so they can develop products and services and hire people to build their businesses?  Why waste money on establishing public jobs that develops nothing when private industry jobs could as easily be created that would develop things and grow the economy?

There are good solutions to solve our national economic problems.  The real underlying problem is that the progressives in Congress and the Obama administration wants to grow government, advance socialism, and control the people.  The civil servants will be automatons who draw paychecks but create nothing—and just shuffle papers.  Creating a dependent population will not catapult the United States out of this economic morass.  Only by encouraging capitalism, free enterprise, free markets, competition, and individual freedom will we improve our economy and create new jobs.  That is what needs to be done.
