As we have said before, we disagree with a whole lot of Democracy Now!’s editorial disposition, however Democracy Now! and Amy Goodman often do honest to goodness news, from what is called the American Left perspective, and that is desperately needed. In a time when the media seems little more than an appendage of the powers that be the folks at Democracy Now! have continued to push and prod when many of their former fellow travelers have decided instead to fall in line.
We are pleased to see the charges dismissed against Ms. Goodman. This should have never happened. Not in this country.
A North Dakota judge dismissed a riot charge againstDemocracy Now! host Amy Goodman in relation to her footage of the Dakota Access oil pipeline protests in the state.
A warrant for Goodman’s arrest was issued in September after Democracy Now! released footage of her reporting, which showed security personnel using pepper spray and attack dogs on protestors at the site of the demonstrations.
The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, whose reservation is located near the proposed oil pipeline, has been protesting the construction. The tribe says the Dakota Access pipelinewill contaminate their local water supply and destroy a burial ground…
…Addressing supporters outside the Morton County Courthouse after the judge dismissed the charge, Goodmancalled the judge’s decision “a great vindication of the First Amendment and of our right to report.”
The state’s attorney was “attempting to stop journalism,” she said.
