Mr. Books has a cocktail party circuit to maintain. He must remain welcomed in polite company.
As we say regularly at Against Crony Capitalism, we do not endorse any political candidates for any office in any race ever.
One area of particular interest to us in the current presidential race is the arrogance and dismissal of so many fortunate people (particularly in the media) of the people who have not seen particularly good fortune since the the 2008 Crash and before. The “working class” (because now we’re Great Britain or something) non-college educated white folks. People who supposedly are likely to vote for Trump. The media during this election has been remarkably insulting to these people. Just ugly.
In fact the media has been doubly insulting. Not only has there been an effort to demonize these people (because they no longer fit into the Democrat coalition), but also to paint the very act of even thinking about voting for Trump as confirmation that one is also probably part of the great unwashed, the unjobbed, the bigoted, the ‘deplorables’, the group of folks who don’t deserve a voice anyway. (Are these Trump people even human?) You don’t want to be associated with these people, do you Mr. and Mrs. Middle Class Voter? You don’t really want to vote like that kind of scum do you? Or maybe, deep down inside, YOU are that kind of scum.
It really has been that bad. Below an example.
(From Real Clear Politics)
Brooks said the less educated and non-college educated whites are going to vote for Donald Trump no matter what. He added, “people are just going with their gene pool.”
Brooks said demographics is the reason why Clinton is making a campaign stop in the state of Michigan, normally a Democratic stronghold, because “there are a lot of white people.”
“Basically, less educated or high school-educated whites are going to Trump,” Brooks told host Judy Woodruff. “It doesn’t matter what the guy does. And college-educated going to Clinton.”
“Sometimes, you get the sense that the campaign barely matters,” a dejected Brooks said. “People are just going with their gene pool and whatever it is. And that is one of the more depressing aspects of this race for me.”
*Mr Brooks needs to get out of the offices of the increasingly unprofitable New York Times and off of the island of Manhattan. And I don’t mean onto the shuttle from JFK to National.
