(From NBC News)

The U.S., Canada and Mexico have won their joint bid to host soccer’s World Cup in 2026.

The members of FIFA, the sport’s governing body, voted on the North American proposal as well as a rival Moroccan bid in Moscow on Wednesday.

The United 2026 proposal got 134 votes, ahead of Morocco’s 65. One FIFA member voted for neither.

The U.S. hosted the tournament in 1994, with Brazil winning the final at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.

Venues for United 2026 will be selected from among a total 23 stadiums that exist or already are under construction, including three each in Mexico and Canada. Sixteen of the U.S. stadiums are home to NFL teams.
