Racist Voter ID Law Would Stop 700,000 Youth Of Color And Millions Of Adults With Out Birth Certificates From Voting

A new report from the Black Youth Project looked at the likely impact of the new voter ID laws that have been passed in many states in the last few years. The report, Turning Back the Clock on Voting Rights, confirms what a lot of people have been saying: these laws disproportionately affect the young and the poor, making it harder for them to exercise their constitutional rights to vote. Some of the report’s key points:
- Numerous studies show that people of color possess photo identification cards at much lower rates than whites. Because young people and lower-income people are also less likely to have photo identification, young people of color are likely to be disproportionately demobilized by these laws.
- Our estimates indicate that overall levels of turnout among young people of color are likely to be reduced by large numbers—between 538,000 and 696,000 in total—in the states that have passed these laws, perhaps falling below 2004 and 2008 levels. These laws are likely to be especially consequential in battleground states like Florida and Pennsylvania.
- In Florida, voters are now required to show photo identification or some other form of ID that displays a signature. Recent polls show that President Obama leads in that state by fewer than five percentage points.
- More than 100,000 youth of color could be demobilized by these new voting requirements – far more votes than separated George W. Bush and Al Gore in the 2000 presidential election.
- If Pennsylvania’s photo identification law is upheld by the State Supreme Court, the 37,000 to 44,000 young people of color who may stay home or be denied the right to vote could certainly be a deciding factor in the state’s presidential contest.
- Across the country, at least 16 competitive House races have photo identification requirements that will likely disproportionately impact minority voters.
The report goes on to analyze the effect of these laws on a number of different minority groups, and confirms something else that a lot of people have been saying: the effect of these laws is to depress voter turnout of the groups who are very likely to vote Democrat. It concludes that “extensive voter mobilization and education efforts will be crucial to ensure high levels of turnout among young people of color in November 202.” You can read the whole thing here. All of this new terminology, political correctness but, what is a ‘youth of color’? I’m serious about this question. Does the article mean young negros? The american blacks? They’re americans, they have ID’s.
PLEASE! dear god stop propagating this FRAUD that a national presidential election means more than NOTHING!!!!!!! VOTERS do NOT choose the president!!!!
THE FRICKIN ELECTORAL COLLEGE DOES!!!!!!!!!!!!
STOP BEING AN IDIOT !!!
Ah, do they have youth of color in the electoral college? I hate to be the one that rains on your parade but, presidents are not elected, they are selected. In layman terms, these individuals selected will become the new CEO for the Corporation of the Golbal Commerce of the United Communist States of Zionist controlled North America. ALL HAIL OBAMA or Soetoro or whatever his actual name is. And, who’s his daddy?
Do your own research. I am sure there are black members of each electoral college. Are they 18? I don’t know. The electoral college votes are counted, so “select” or “elect,” are synonymous here. But the electoral college that represents each nominee CAN’T have a say unless the “people” vote.
I don’t hail this president nor any other. But especially, this one. He’s a worthless socialist.
You’re the idiot. You CAN’T have an electoral college vote UNLESS the people vote. Grow up and read something about electoral college and how it works. You are showing your youthful ignorance.
This was meant for Kolta.
I keep pressing the wrong button. The “idiot” reply was for desertspeaks.
Uh, the electoral college MUST have the voters vote in order for them to. Do some research. They have NO power without the common voter. And the system was devised so that the ordinary citizen that lives in the more obscure parts of the country still have a say. Otherwise, New York and California would ALWAYS decide the presidential nominee. It’s the same reason why we have representatives in the house numbered according to population, while the senate is two per state. If the voters don’t vote, than the electoral college picked for a particular candidate/party, obviously wouldn’t earn the right to vote. There have only been 3 occasions where a president won without the public majority voting for them. Rather rare. But I personally do NOT want California or New York deciding my president.
And… why must we continue to “dumb down” American citizens? Are we to believe that “youth of color” or so ignorant they don’t know how to or where to get an ID? Do they not drive cars?
And…who, in this day and age, does NOT have a birth certificate? Are we also to believe they are all so ignorant they can’t or don’t know how to get a birth certificate? These are ridiculous arguments that only serve to encourage racial tensions by reinforcing the notion that youth of color are inept and incapable of doing even the simplest of tasks. Those who believe this nonsense are the real racists. You are not doing anybody any favors here.
Most of u r dead wrong. Presidents r selected by way of the CFR providing both parties candidates since JFK was murdered. That combined with the fact the your votes are not counted, or they are electronically diverted to the candidate the CFR intends to win the election. The tv stations call the states elections often with just 1% of precincts reporting. They do not count your votes. Its all an illusion.
I was under the impression that all people 18 or older were required to have identification. ID is required to apply for a job, to cash a check, to register for college, to get into a club, and for so many other things. Why the he’ll is ANYONE stupid enough to think that those who do not comply with basic minimum requirements should be allowed to vote without any hint of accountability. The ID proves that u r who u say u are and that u indeed have the right to cast your vote, without it, hit the road Jack.
