3 Methane Gas Leak/Explosions In 2 Days, Expect More, Scientists Say

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Cleveland firefighters are on the scene where one house exploded in a methane gas blast on the city’s east side and two others were demolished, after two other gas leaks this week killed one, injured seven, and brought emergency crews racing to treat gas-poisoned youth at a school in other cities. Scientists say to expect and prepare for more methane incidents.

A department spokesman says it appears the house, located in Cleveland’s 3600 block of East 112th was vacant and it appears no one was hurt, according to WKYC.

Crews are presently searching through the debris that the blast demolished by the blast. The house across the street is also damaged.

The neighborhood has been evacuated and all the other homes in the neighborhood are being assessed.

Dominion East Ohio gas crews have also been called to the site.

The Cleveland gas explosion comes on the heels of two other methane

Wednesday, at least 11 students were treated for methane gas poisoning at Quali Middle School in North Carolina.

Tuesday, one death and 7 injuries resulted from a methane gas explosion in Ewing, New Jersey. Just hours ago, Linda Cerritelli was identified as the resident killed in a massive New Jersey explosion that damaged 55 condos and totaled 20 houses. The body of Ms. Corritelli was found atop a car. Huge amounts of debris were blown on top of buildings blocks away in the blast.

Last month, a young man tragically died in a Chevron methane gas explosion in southern Pennsylvania. Don't however, expect to get straight answers on such tragic explosions, as this reporter learned near the crime scene and the nearby village and township.

Also last month, a report showed that methane gas is leaking in the United States up to 75% more than the EPA had advised.

"Up to 75% more methane is leaking nationwide than the Environmental Protection Agency estimates, researchers concluded after reviewing over 200 studies of gas leaks across North America. The report is making headlines as it shows extraordinary damage that gas is having on human health and the environment.

“In a combined series of studies of 47,000 patients, two doctors found “the most important sources of indoor pollution responsible for generating (environmental) illness were the gas cook stoves, hot water heaters, and furnaces” writes Dr. Bill Rea, of the Dallas Environmental Health Centre. (Emphasis added)

“For the chemically susceptible individual this gas may be the worst form of fuel,” writes Dr. T. G. Randolph. His studies showed when gas stoves were removed from the home of a person with chemical sensitivities, not only did their health improve, so did that of all family members.

A recent study shows methane leaks are hazardous across major U.S. cities, posing an explosion risk and a threat to the climate.

Nearly 5,900 methane and other gas leaks have been found in ageing natural gas pipelines in Washington, D.C. alone. There, some manholes had methane levels 10 times the threshold for an explosion, according to the study conducted by researchers from Duke University and Boston University.

The release of large amounts of methane gas from thawing Arctic permafrost could devastate the global economy, according to European scientists.

Sscientists, from Britain’s University of Cambridge and Erasmus University in the Netherlands, put a price on the melt — $60 trillion over the coming decades.

Their findings, published in the journal Nature, said that unlike starving polar bears, population booms and such, economic impacts of a warming Arctic and methane have been ignored.

Now, add all the above to the fact that Big Energy is notorious for not abiding by the few regulations there are and you have a literally explosive issue.

Correction: Quali Hollow Middle School is in Charlotte, North Carolina. The original story stated South Carolina.
