Chapter 6: How to Deal with a 21st Century America--Sartorial splendor

            Clint Eastwood portrayed a classic cowboy.  He dressed­ the part.  Women loved him.  They shed their clothes for him.  ­When he was Dirty Harry, he dressed the part, and women again­ fell for him in San Francisco.

            Jimmy Stuart, Frank Sinatra, Kevin Costner, Val Kilmer­al, Mel Gibson, Ricky Martin and other male stars always got/get the woman.

On the other hand, Mickey Rooney and Danny Divito never got the girl.  ­Neither did the Hunchback of Notre Dame.  Why?  Because they ­dressed poorly.

            It matters little whether you’re good looking, well built,­ or fat as a pizza cook–the way you dress makes an impression on­ any woman you meet or accompany on a date.

            For the man who has been a slob all his life, seek ­counseling.  Your mother picked up after you, dressed you and fed ­you.  You’re perilously dependent on a mothering, mate.  They’re­ out there, but they come with a ton of things you don’t like­ about your mother.  The problem with being a slob is that you­ think it’s normal.  If it were normal, middle American housing ­suburbs would look like inner city ghettos.  If it were normal to go slobbing it, they’d wear rags at the Oscars.  No, being a slob­ is not normal and the sooner you figure that out and move toward ­an orderly life-style, you have a chance at some very classy­ ladies.

            That means you want to create a ‘style’ of dressing no ­matter what the occasion. 

            The key to dressing well is to buy quality over quantity.  ­If you only have one suit, buy the best quality you can afford. ­ It’s better to wear it over and over again–and show your ­sartorial splendor–than buying cheap materials and looking like ­something the dog dragged in.

            That goes for jeans and polo shirts.  If you wear them with ­running shoes, make sure they are clean and sharp. 

            Whenever you wear shoes, make certain they are polished and­ black dye trims the sole edges.

            If you have poor color or styling tastes, grab a trusted­ girlfriend who knows what colors fit your skin and what styles ­show off your best assets.  Let your trusted lady friend go­ through your closet and discard clothing items that make you look­ like a walking Salvation Army collection center.  That lady can­ help make way for the ‘ever improving’ you.

            Clothes make the man.  Conversely, a man can make his ­clothes.  Create a positive dress style and you’ll enjoy the ­fruits of those women’s’ glances.
