Chapter 49: How to Deal with a 21st Century American Woman--Value psychoanalysis

                              CHAPTER 49–VALUE PSYCHOANALYSIS

          There comes a time in a man’s life when he doubts himself.  ­It might happen with a divorce or loss of job.  It might come­ when a close friend tells him things he does not like about ­himself.  Many men have a mid-life crisis around age forty. 

          No matter what your age, there will be a time in your life ­that you get depressed about how your life is going.  You ­wouldn’t go see a therapist if you were rich and happy.  You­ visit one when things aren’t working well. 

          There’s a saying about living fully:

          Be careful with your thoughts

          for they become words

          Be careful with your words

          for they become actions

          Be careful with your actions

          for they become habits

          Be careful with your habits

          for they become your character

          As for character–

          it becomes your destiny.

          How you develop your character is vital to your every aspect ­of your life.  Your character advances your values.  Your values ­are the essence of your humanity.  From your humanity, your ­friendships will be dictated and your relationships will follow. ­Your choices are very important.

          From time to time, we need help from our friends.  They give ­us support and feedback. 

          Therapists give us a professional dose of reality.  They can­ help us get back on track or find out what is keeping us off the ­track.  We’re not saying a therapist can lead anyone toward joy. ­But, they can give us tools that allow us to move toward­ happiness.

          The fact is, many of us walk around without a clue.  We need­ to move toward learning more about ourselves and what we can do ­to become better human beings.

          If it’s an option, give it a few tries and see what good­ might happen.
