Manyfirst became familiar with Elder Goldwire McLendon from his recent appearances on BET Sunday Best. Others know him as one of Philadelphia’s nativesons and a former member of the Savettes, the Brockington Ensemble, and the Victory Chorale Union.

ElderMcLendon did not win Sunday Best, but he did secure a contract with Music WorldGospel. His full project, The Best ofElder Goldwire McLendon, comes out April 24, making him, at age 81, the oldest American contemporary music artist to be signedto a record deal.

“JesusBe a Fence Around Me,” his first single from the album, is a cover of the SoulStirrers favorite, albeit with a contemporary gospel arrangement. By the end, Elder McLendon is getting religiously funky!
