Ellen Tweets Picture of Ricky Gervais’ Weight Loss

If all his hilarious jokes were distracting you during the Golden Globes, perhaps you didn’t notice that Ricky Gervais is looking a whole lot leaner these days.

After all the bruhaha went down because Gervais made fun of the Hollywood elite while they cried and moaned (see: Robert Downey Jr.) because they didn’t have their asses kissed before getting their award, Ellen DeGeneres then tweeted the above picture of Gervais looking about 40-50 pounds lighter than his days spent as David Brent on BBC’s The Office.

“Please enjoy this photo of Ricky Gervais in my underwear,” Ellen wrote.

If you missed all the drama, reportedly, the presses have been running wild with stories of celebrities with hurt feelings after Gervais told jokes at their expense during the recent 2011 Golden Globes. In fact, when Downey Jr. took the stage after Gervais reminded the audience of his stints at The Betty Ford Clinic and L.A. County Jail, Downey Jr. said: “Aside from the fact that it’s been hugely mean-spirited with mildly sinister undertones, I’d say the vibe of the show has been pretty good so far, wouldn’t you?”

With rumors running rampant that Gervais was fired halfway through the show and that he will never be asked to host the Golden Globes again, Gervais told TMZ himself that hosting the show twice has been enough. And now, he’s taken to his blog to clear the air.

Ricky writes, “Obviously the rumour that the organizers stopped me going out on stage for an hour is rubbish. I did every link I was scheduled to do. The reason why the gaps were uneven is because when I got the rundown I was allowed to choose who I presented to. I obviously chose the spots that I had the best gags for. They couldn’t move around the order but I could move around however I wanted.

All the same conspiracy theories as last year too… “So and so was offended”… “hasn’t been invited back yet”… exactly the same as last time. “Paul McCartney was furious”…no he wasn’t. And nor was Tim Allen and Tom Hanks. I was drinking with them after.

Why do people have to embellish? They’re allowed to say they hated it. They’re allowed to say they didn’t find it funny, that it was tasteless, over the top, or whatever. But why do they speculate and make stuff up?

Don’t worry, I know the answer. Because it’s more interesting than “it went fine and some people won some awards and then went to a party”. But that’s all that happened.”
