Fukushima creating monster-mutated animals

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

As frantic nuclear workers battle melting reactors and plutonium radiation in Tokyo Electric’s Fukushima reactors a new fear has surfaced…

Radioactive nuclear monsters may soon appear

No, the mutated animals will not be giant radioactive ants or grasshoppers like 1950s monster movies. But they can be terribly mutated monstrosities with DNA horribly twisted by nuclear poisoning.

Things of horror emerged from the southwestern desert after the early atomic tests by the U.S. military. Although much was hushed up, some of the mutated terrors leaked into scientific reports of the time.

Lurid news articles about mutated plants and animals encouraged Hollywood studios like Warner Brothers to give the nod to such atomic doomsday thrillers like Them!–a scary tale of humanity’s war against giant ants that invade Los Angeles. Other B-movies had Chicago attacked by hordes of 12-foot locusts and a titanic preying mantis terrifying Manhattan Island.

A giant ant appears in Them!

Although atomic bombs can affect DNA, the affect is short term. Long term radioactive contamination from nuclear reactor accidents is much worse and has a greater impact on surrounding plants and animals.

Chernobyl’s nightmares

Chernobyl – mutant boy in hospital

Russian scientists discovered first hand the nuclear nightmare world of mutants in the months following the Chernobyl disaster. Although the radioactive plume drifted around the world, the most severe impact was seen in the region of the reactor and adjacent countryside. Not only plants and animals, but humans too were mutated.

As authorities desperately evacuated people, animals roamed into the highly radioactive land. Plants soaked up Strontium-90 and Caesium-137. They also absorbed deadly plutonium that leached into the soil and ground water. Rogue neutron rays swept the countryside.

Mutant plant discovered in Radiological Reserve

Animals drank from rivers and streams; the water glowed a faint blue at night.

The surrounding forest turned rust-colored red and the biodiversity mutated radically. Some observed gigantism appearing in animals and trees grew weird, gnarled branches, some grew roots at their top instead of in the ground.

As the radiation spread and humans abandoned it, the area became a refuge for mutant plants and animals–a living zoo of Twilight Zone proportions that some in Kiev, the nearest major city to the site of the disaster, have called a Forest of Wonders.

Mutant monkey – early atomic tests

Naturalists have coined the three square miles around the former facility–the most radioactive region on Earth–a Radiological Reserve.

Misshapen birds roost inside the partially destroyed reactor housing. Some have stunted tail feathers and leathery bodies. Others have multiple legs and stumps for feet.

Mutated DNA creates mutant mouse

Weirdly massive and mutated tailess wolves, fanged beavers, one-legged storks and giant-beaked eagles have been reported by frightened hikers.

Mutant snake with vestigal reptile legs

Some shocked campers have seen cyclopean animals outside the danger region that only have tiny slits for mouths.

Shocking mutated tree toad

Now botanists and zoologists fear for the plant and animal life surrounding the breached Japanese TEPCO reactors and nearby sea life.

What monstrosities might emerge? No one knows.

Only time will tell.

Wonder how many superheros will emerge from the ruble to claim vengeance on the government?

Troma films could make a comeback ;-)

Most of the mutated animals will not be able to reproduce and will die off because they are at such a huge natural survival disadvantage.

After the inept and irresponsible handling of this nuclear plant by the so called engineers and ‘BOSS’ there is no doubt that we can expect some pretty horrific specimens to emerge. It seems that this plant was bought/built ‘on the cheap’ and no provision was made for adequate backup services, accounting for the fact that Japan is a major earthquake zone, just slammed together to provide power asap. The ‘BOSS’ of this plane just didn’t care or actually KNOW what he was doing. Allowing the spent rods to be placed next to a working reactor is invitation to a major disaster which is now occurring. Now releasing 1000′nds of gallons of highly active water into the pacific which could have been avoided much earlier on if the company had thought about consequences instead of how much money they would lose. No-one knows what will be the result of this catastrophy, but the people who are responsible for building and operating this plant should be tried for gross negligence and whatever happens after this, if it ever ends at all. With repeated messages to the public around the world ‘there is no danger to the public’ it remains to be seen what this actually means. With situations like this, every reactor should be shut down around the world and re-evaluated before we have another major ‘accident’…

We could take them home to hang from the ceiling, the glow would light the rom and save on electricty.

      @John L Sullivan

My first job out of college was at Troma! Working there was even scarier than watching their movies!

Loved Troma. Those movies were crap, and brilliant all at the same time :)

It’s not a mouse, it’s a kitten. Nice source links!!! I get the feeling I’m reading one of Barracuda’s fine “reports.” ‘Cuda, you using another handle??

I presume that you know that all kinds of ‘mutations’ happen all the time, so this will be nothing new. Have you never seen calves with two heads, etc.

    • Life With Aspergers

I wonder if we’re seeing evolutionary changes on a small scale?

For example; if any mutants end up (a) being better adapted to their environment than the original animal/plant and (b) able to reproduce, then they could take over as the dominant strain of their species in the area.

Who knows, perhaps other types of radioactive events (solar etc) had a big impact on the shape of life today.

Interesting article. However, the mutated mouse is actually a cyclopean kitten. http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl_one_eyed_kitten.htm

I wonder what it will do to the sea creatures when the radiation gets to the Atlantic. They will be dealing with oil, dispersants and radiation.

The 3rd picture down described as “mutant plant found in radiological reserve” is rubbish. That’s a normal looking Frangipanni stem with early shoots. VERY suspect article.

    • Pix

LOL in experiments of radiation generated mutations, over time they repair themselves and revert back to what they were origanally. There are no long term mutational effects from radiation contamination.

    • War Pony

The “mutant” plant is a Plumeria – I have one that looks exactly like that after a cold winter here in Texas. It is no mutant. Gong~!

this means Godzilla will save japan from mutant creatures

I would suggest sending Obamoo there but he would come back as something much worse than the anti-christ!

With long term exposure over thousands of years, mutations may become a permanent fixture of this earth life. How long has it been since Chernobyl – 25 years and counting… It will be a million years before things get back to normal there so that begs the question which is this…If we continue having nuclear accidents and contaminating large areas of the world which is inevitable…do you think we are going to be around to contain all the nuclear waste…25,000 years from now? How old is the great pyramid – they say 10,000 years old oh and by the way where are the people who built it? How long does a civilization usually last for on average anyway – about 2000 years maybe more or less so this begs the question when we are gone, who is going to contain the nuclear waste? Who is going to mind the store? And if it is nobody then guess what… say bye bye to our world as habitable planet and hello Mars. I am guessing this is where Mars went. Mars is what we will become.

This just proves that nuclear bombs are extremely dangerous. Causing it’s areas to become infected with the poisonous elements. “As the radiation spread and humans abandoned it, the area became a refuge for mutant plants and animals…” It’s place and all of the animals staying there are mutated either by eating the now harmful plants that “soaked up Strontium-90 and Caesium-137”, or by drinking “the water [that] glowed a faint blue at night”.
There’s no doubt that animals such as mice, monkeys’, “misshapen” birds, snakes, and tree toads have been mutated, as there have been reports on the animals from Naturalists and roaming hikers. We don’t know what will come to these lands, and may never be able to stop the mutations of the animals living there. Though not everything’s certain, I hope that the world will stop from using these hazardous nuclear bombs.
