“Many in the scientific community have moved away from using the term “algae” to describe the thing that led to the shut down of Toledo’s water supply. The stuff looks like algae, but it’s really a type of bacteria – cyanobacteria to be more specific.”

The samples taken on August 26 from the French River in Dry Pine Bay have tested positive for blue-green algae or cyanobacteria. The samples have a species of cyanobacteria that can produce poison.

TOPEKA, Kan. -If you’re headed out to the lake this Labor Day weekend, be advised several blue-green algae warnings and advisories have been issued for 11 state lakes.
