Mary Jo White is to step down as chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission at the end of the Obama administration, it was confirmed on Monday.
The head of the SEC, the US’s top markets watchdog, usually changes when a different party takes over the White House.
White announced her decision early but will stay on until the end of the Obama administration. Donald Trump is due to be sworn in as the next president on January 20, 2017.
