WeedMD starts selling medical cannabis and registering patients

WeedMD Inc (CVE:WMD) has officially begun registering patients and fulfilling orders for medical cannabis through its online store, it said.

The number of medical patients in Canada is fast approaching 200,000 – a clear demonstration of the demand for an alternative to traditional pharmaceuticals, the group said.

“We are extremely excited to finally open our doors to patients and begin offering access to our diverse selection of medical cannabis,” Bruce Dawson-Scully, chief executive  of WeedMD, said on Wednesday.

“This represents a major milestone for our company and is only just the beginning of what we plan to achieve.”

Starting pre-registration in May, the firm had a  wait list of over 1,000 patients, and plans to leverage its clinic relationships to further accelerate enrollment.

In anticipation of beginning sales, WeedMD has produced a sizeable inventory of well over 300kg of dried product that is in its vault

The Company’s product offerings represent a variety of strains with varying levels of CBD and THC to address the diverse needs of medical patients in Canada.

WeedMD also told investors it has received its license to sell cannabis plants to patients registered for home grow and expects to begin sales of cannabis starting materials within the coming week.

Shares eased 3.3% to $0.93.
