Skylanders Superchargers Racing for the Wii Brings Racing to Life #Sponsored

Do I have any Skylanders fans out there? I know MY kiddos absolutely adore these adventure packed video games. They love getting sucked into an imaginary land, going on adventures to conquer evil, and of course, they enjoy adding to their Skylanders figure collections. 

Recently, Activision released a new Skylanders experience in their Skylanders Superchargers games. These games are available for all of your favorite consoles, but please note: The Wii and 3DS versions of the game are completely different than the ones for more popular consoles such as the PS4, Wii U, or XBox One. 

We actually received the Skylanders Superchargers Racing Starter Pack for the Wii, so we got to experience this much different Skylanders game for ourselves. Does different mean good? Well, yes and no. It really depends on what your child is looking for in their gaming. 

The Skylanders Superchargers Racing Starter Pack for the Wii comes complete with the following items:

- Video Game
- Portal of Power
- 2 Skylanders SuperChargers – Hammer Slam Bowser* and Super Shot Stealth Elf
- 1 Skylanders Vehicle – Clown Cruiser*
- Collection Poster

*For use with compatible Nintendo systems only. Hammer Slam Bowser toy also works as an amiibo figure.

Sophie, Xander, and even Kyle were all excited to see the included characters. They were especially stoked about the inclusion of Bowser, since we’re die-hard Mario fans here. (Hey, gotta love the classics, right?) Super Shot Stealth Elf is pretty nifty, too, of course. 

The kids have our Wii hooked up in the living room, and they immediately headed for their mini-recliners to patiently wait for us to get the game all set up and ready to play. Of course set-up is super simple, and if you’re at all familiar with Skylanders, you won’t have any problems at all. 

You will need to place your Sky Vehicles on the Portal of Power, as well as your characters. The system will automatically recognize your choices, and if your character matches up with the vehicle, special boosters can be unlocked. This is something my kids absolutely LOVE. Additional characters and vehicles are available for purchase, so this game can be highly customized for the perfect racing experience. 

The graphics in Skylanders Superchargers Racing are pretty phenomenal. This is one area that we were definitely quite pleased. As you can see from the screenshots below, the graphics are crisp, clear, and very vibrant. Definitely designed to keep kids excited and engaged. 

Now when I said this game was VERY different than your typical Skylanders adventure, I wasn’t kidding. This might be a GOOD thing, or it might be a not so good thing. It all really depends on what kind of gaming experience your child is looking for. 

The biggest difference? Well, if you purchase the Wii or 3DS versions of the game, there is no story mode.

That’s right. There is no storyline to follow in these versions. There’s only racing. There’s no trapping enemies here, and while you can add an element based attack to your vehicle, it’s definitely not the same Skylanders experience your child is probably used to. 

Now if your child loves racing games like Mario Cart, they will absolutely LOVE this game. It’s very reminiscent of Mario Cart, but with the magic of Skylanders characters and vehicles. 

My teenager, Kyle, got bored with this game rather quickly. He prefers playing the more traditional Skylanders games that include a storyline, trapping enemies, etc. He literally played Skylanders Superchargers Racing for 10 minutes and declared it a bust. 

Sophie and Xander, my younger kids, had a very different experience. They actually really enjoyed this game! 

Sophie and Xander really got a kick out of being able to race their characters, and they especially liked the fast-paced nature of this game. They ooh-ed and ahh-ed over the graphics, and were especially excited that they were able to play with Bowser, their favorite Nintendo villain. They also really loved the fact that while you can do road racing, you can also choose to race sky and water vehicles, too. 

So overall, we have mixed feelings about Skylanders Superchargers Racing for the Wii and Nintendo 3DS. While it’s a super-fun racing game that kids are bound to love, it may be a disappointment for those who were hoping to experience the Skylanders storyline, trap enemies, or defeat Kaos. In this game, there’s absolutely none of these features. For some kids, like my teen, this is a complete and total deal-breaker.

​For younger kids, racing fanatics, or those who aren’t wrapped up in the Skylanders story mode, the racing alone can be quite a thrill. It all really depends on the gaming experience your child is looking for. 

If your kids love Skylanders, racing, or both, I would definitely recommend checking out Skylanders Superchargers. Just keep in mind that if you’re choosing the Wii or Nintendo 3DS versions, there is no storyline, only racing. Still a fun experience, and my kids are definitely looking forward to adding new vehicles and characters to their collection for even more racing fun!
