Have you ever found one of those toys that is just bound to become an instant classic, that kids both young and old will absolutely love?

That is exactly how we felt when we discovered the Calico Critters from Epoch Everlasting Play.

Calico Critters is a line of miniature animal figures, with homes, furniture and accessories. The animal figures are unique because they are made of a special flocked material that gives them an endearing quality. They were introduced in Japan in 1985 and are distributed worldwide.

Calico Critters are sold as families, with Mothers and Fathers, sisters, brothers and babies. The homes and furniture are quite life-like are have incredible detail. The Critters live in the community of Calico Village. All the citizens in Calico Village have hobbies and jobs. The underlying theme is giving, friendship and happiness. Calico Critters are wholesome, never trendy.

Recently, we received the gorgeous, Cozy Cottage Starter Home to check out for ourselves. This was our first experience with Calico Critters, and I have to say, we were immediately impressed by the charm and quality put into this play set. 

This is the perfect way to start a Calico Critter collection! This cozy cottage comes fully assembled and ready to play with everything you need for hours of pretend play fun. Includes moveable, reversible floor to use as a front yard, expand the 1st floor, or create a 2 story house! Over 15 furniture pieces & accessories including Bell Hopscotch Rabbit, bed with matching sheets, square table with chairs, kitchen counter with sink & 3 storage areas, cutting board with chopping “”knife”", and moveable ladder for easy access to each floor. House measures 10.5″” x 8″” x 10.75″”. The Hopscotch Rabbit Family lives in this home. Some critters & accessories sold separately

As you can see, this adorable cottage has amazing detail, very reminiscent of woodland cottages of days gone by, perhaps from a fairy tale land. There are “wooden” floors, detailed roof and shutters on the windows, and even a cute little ladder to get from one floor to the next. 

But the BEST part? 

Well, our Calico Critters Hopscotch Rabbit friend and all the her furnishings, of course! Check out how charming this furnished cottage is! I love the little table and chairs, complete with doily. I also really like the kitchen set up and even the cute little bed, too! 

My youngest child, Xander, took a particular liking to this Calico Critters set. You see, he is obsessed with all things animal, and even wants to be a vet when he grows up. He and his sister have been enjoying this Cozy Cottage very much, and have spent quite a few lazy afternoons engaging in this wholesome, family-oriented, imaginative play.
