Euro falls as morning trading opens (Joshua Privett)

The Euro is down against a host of currencies this morning, most noticeably the Pound and the Australian Dollar.

The likely reasoning, without any news out over the weekend, is due to the speech set to be given by President of the European Central Bank Mario Draghi this afternoon.

He has actively tried to devalue the Euro each time he has addressed markets directly at the start of February. This will be his third attempt.

He has explicitly stated since the start of 2015 that his growth policy for the Eurozone is built on having a cheap Euro to make European exports more competitive on the global market, as well as to fuel cheap foreign investment.

Unfortunately, he cannot simply press a button and cause the Euro to lose value, he instead talks down the current performance of the Eurozone to global markets in order to elicit anxiety surrounding the Euro in order to achieve his goal.

He only gets a few opportunities each month to do this, so since Sterling itself is still currently in the midst of a weakening trend, when Mr Draghi does speak, these are arguably opportunities that should be seized by Euro buyers before rates continue what has been quite concerning drops.
