Everywhere you look these days, online or in your local bookstore, you will invariably see drawings, illustrations and photographs of how the average person perceives an angel to be. Most but not all are female, and nearly 100% of all angels are presented as having beautiful wings with an amazingly impressive span.

“But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool? Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?” Hebrews 1:13,14 (KJV)

But what does the bible have to say about the appearance of angels, or for that matter, their purpose and ministry? It might be edifying for the student of scripture to know exactly what abgels are, and just as importantly, what angels are not.
