The gold standard obsessives, by contrast, think like Malthusians and apparently view the imposition of the gold standard as a tool of depopulating the U.S. through depressions and famines so that they can rule the cowed survivors more easily.

Who’s saying J-P Morgan is not pumping out fake gold bars so that no one dare buy many which helps J.P keep the price of gold down and the USA is not forced to admit it has no gold left.
Buy gold but ensure you get someone to sign on the line that they will pay out if the product is shown to be fake at a later date.
I’ve tested tons of silver and so far i have not found any fakes and i even go as far as using electrolysis to remove or part metals within the coins and end up wasting good coins but it’s sometimes worth the peace of mind.
Even if 2/3 of my silver turned out to be fake then I would still break even because the printing press has pushed the price up that much in just a few years.
I believe you could use a center punch to test for fake gold bars.
Tungsten is far harder than gold-it was once used for phonograph needles-even though it weighs nearly the same. If the bar is real gold, a punch hit with a hammer should make a good size dent in it. If the bar is tungsten with only a thin coating of gold, the same punch with the same blow probably would barely penetrate the surface, if at all.
Another possible test would be to drop the bar on a hard floor and listen to the ring. I believe real gold would have a much different ring from tungsten with just a thin coat of gold. And gold bars drilled out and filled with tungsten rods probably would just go Clunk!

Since Tungsten or Wolfram has a much higher melting point,one could simply heat the Bar to melt out the Gold.ince both the Gold and Tungsten are none Magnetic there is no electronic Means to test for Purity.
Depleted Uranium has almost the same weight and density but radiation can be detected if the Gold plating is thin.

dont drill your bars if you dont have to, theres equipment that you can buy for like $300 to ultra sound your bars (sonic) to check for flaws. try to stick to coins, old currency etc to be on the safe side. i personally buy old us 90% silver coins. im no baller lol
Fiat money has value because you have to use it to pay your taxes, and the government prosecutes people who steal it. If tomorrow the government refused to acknowledge the property value of gold by refusing to consider thefts of anything made of gold a crime, gold’s value would collapse immediately. You could walk out of a jewelry store with a gold ring without paying for it, and the cops wouldn’t bother you because you haven’t stolen anything.
