Taxpayer Cost of Litter- Butler County, Ohio

It cost the Ohio Department of Transportation nearly $140,000 combined to pick up after people in Butler and Warren counties in 2010.

Throw in approximately 7,000 man hours and more than 13,000 trash bags later, and officials say that time and money can be used elsewhere to better serve residents’ needs.

Since 2005, ODOT has spent an average of $72,000/year….

In Butler County, ODOT has spent an average of $51,000 in each of the last six years to clean up county roads.

The state spent more than $4 million in trash and litter pick up – a preventable problem, said ODOT Director Jerry Wray. That money could be spent to pave 40 miles of a two-lane road, 340 miles of guardrail or purchase 28 snow plow trucks, according to ODOT.

State workers spent more than 200,000 hours on the state’s roadways and collected approximately 392,000 bags of trash throughout Ohio’ 88 counties
