Reusing Gallon Milk Jugs For Toys

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Lately I have been contemplating gallon plastic bottles- jugs used for milk. When you think about it, these self-same gallon containers are used for bottled water, pesticides, laundry soap, dishwashing soap, floor cleaners and more.  Try taking a trip through your house and count the number of plastic gallon containers. How many of them get recycled? Even bottled water has only a 23% percent recycled rate.

That said, these gallon containers are perfect for kids crafts. Today with all the cutbacks in school art programs, these might be a solution to enhancing kids creatively at home and at work and keeping them off digital devices.

I just gotta Eco Ya:

  • Most plastic milk containers are made from high-density polyethylene, also known as HDPE or No. 2 plastic, which means they are recyclable.
  • Each American consumes 20.4 gallons of milk per year.
  • American consume 156.7 million gallons of Milk a year. If 1/2 of that were plastic gallon jugs of milk that would mean over 75 Million plastic containers.
  • The Environmental Protection Agency says that  just 28.9% of plastic milk cartons are recycled.

There are tons of ways to reuse, but this is about toys and crafts for kids. Not all of these are milk jugs, but you can see the concept.

2.) This house made from what looks like bleach jugs (UGH!) are miniature doll houses.

They can also be miniature car stops or garages.
