This is a copy of an email my friend sent to me when I asked him about our neighbor, who is working on the Gulf clean up effort. I am also including a copy of our neighbors response to the serverity of the spill, followed by the real facts on Video.

Hi, all.
I’m back from the Gulf after two weeks.
Our boat was working offshore of Horn Island pass south of Pascagoula, MS,

and then traveled 24 hours back to Port Fourchon, LA just before I got off.

During that time, I saw no oil at all, and only some minor ‘sheens’ on the surface a couple of times. When we arrived back on shore, the marshes and beaches around Fourchon were free of oil. It is relatively easy to clean a beach, just a tractor to scrape off the top of the sand, and hand work to pick up larger globules and seaweed. One local tells me after this, the beach there is cleaner than its been for years, since they also pick up trash. Some marshes will be a different story, but be aware that the marshes in LA often run up to 50 miles inland, and according to the interactive map below, only the area bordering the sea has oil.
 
Another factoid, did you know that millions of gallons of oil seeps naturally in the Gulf?
The GOM is known to be the world’s largest oil seep area.

The good part about this is that as a result, natural oil-eating organisms are in abundance here, and the climate keeps them working most of the year.

After reading this message and checking out the links, I had to find out for myself if in fact this was all true? Now I know the rest of the story. The video is worth a million words!!!
