Parents responsible for kid's obesity

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

All parents know this for a fact. One way or another, parents are responsible for their kid’s obesity. Many parents allow their kids to eat what they want. Another set of parents promote obesity by transferring their eating habits to kids. Moreover, obesity creates social, physical and psychological problems to kids when they have to live on their own.

Children consider parents as a role model

This might be known to all parents. But what they do not know is how well they influence their kid’s life. Your successes, mistakes, features, characteristics, mannerisms, behavior and even genetic traits influence and mold your kids. Naturally, if you eat like you are crazy, you’ll pass it on to your kids too. It doesn’t matter how much you try to hide your behavior, the kids will find it.

In fact, kids try to study and copy all of their parent’s behavioral traits. That is why parents, especially the father, have to be careful about whatever they say or do in front of the kids.

It’s not always a mom’s job

This might be the biggest debate when it comes to parenting and obesity. Is it a mom’s job to teach good manners to the kids? Then, what is the role of a father in this process? The answer is simple. When it comes to eating habits, the father has got an important role. A recent study says that if a man always eat from fast food restaurants, their kids are more likely to do so.

To make it more interesting, the study showed that a man’s eating habits carry more weight than that of the mother’s. In other words, fathers are more likely to have an impact on childhood obesity.

The scars won’t heal very easily

Believe me, prevention is better than cure. Parents can prevent natural childhood obesity issues. My father was an academic and my mother had to look after everything; naturally, they had little time to look after me and my brother. What was the result? I was weighed almost 100 pounds by the time I was 14. I was glad that I started working out and got my shape back.

I know that the scars do not heal easily. By the time was 14 and started working out, I was the laughing stock of my community. It took a lot of hard work to get my shape back and start everything from scratch. This blog was a part of my new ‘self.’

How did you manage your kid’s weight issues?

Do you find that your eating habits led to your kid’s obesity?
