Obese kids have higher prevalence of psoriasis

I must say that you guys might be seeing some sort of pattern here. Yes, I was an obese guy and I had lots of nightmares about that. Thats why I dedicate most of my health related posts to obesity. Alright, psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the skin that starts early in life.

The bad thing here is that those children with significant weight problems have a higher prevalence of psoriasis, cholesterol levels and heart diseases. We know very little about psoriasis in children.

The children with psoriasis is more likely to have blood cholesterol problems. In adults, patients with psoriasis are at higher risk of developing conditions such as heart attack, stroke and hyper tension. This chronic disease combined with the childhood obesity is the best recipe for a terrible, long time disease.

Researchers found out that obese children were almost 40 percent more likely to have psoriasis than normal weight children. The higher heart disease risk for patients with psoriasis starts in childhood in the form of higher cholesterol levels.

The low level chronic inflammation is one of its characteristics. The problem with us not knowing enough about the metabolic risks of psoriasis makes it harder to understand its impact on children with weight problems.

I guess that these scientists and researchers would have to follow these patients for at least 40 years to determine the cardiovascular risk factors involved. In the mean time, all of you parents got new reasons to get your kids to the playground.
