Stop Your Risk Of Getting Diabetes, Cancer, And Arthritis With A Ferratin Blood Level Test (Video).

A couple of days ago I came across this website that explained the risk of Hemochromatosis which is too much iron in the body. It is also called iron overload. When I first started to read about it I wasn’t really interested at all. I mean shouldn’t people be more worried about having an iron deficiency? I mean shouldn’t women be more concerned on getting anemia? Not necessarly…

Women less likely have a risk of getting iron overload because during menstration they lose around 15 mg of iron. Men on the other hand have a high risk of getting iron overload. You’re probably thinking how does one even get iron overload in their body? A lot of foods since around the 1930′s have been fortified with iron thinking it would help the human body but it has probably done more harm than good. Here is some research I found below:

Suitable food vehicles for iron fortification include cereal flours, such as wheat and corn. These foods already contain iron, although most of it has been removed during milling to white flour. Suitale technologies to fortify flour with reduced iron or iron pyrophosphate have been developed. In general, the quality of bread, fine bakery products, and pasta is not negatively affected by reduced iron or iron pyrophosphate (idpas.org)

This means that white flour foods have been fortified with iron. Which can be excellent for individuals that have anemia but what about the other healthy individuals in the world? The average American diet is probably consuming a lot of white flour foods which can definetly cause iron overload. Studies have shown that iron overload may have a significant link to diabetes, cancer, and arthritis. Plus, if you’re taking an iron supplement on top of eating white flour foods, eating other foods that contain iron such as; blackstrap molasses or eggs (the yolk), and drinking alcohol ( which helps absorb iron into the body), and a lot of red meat you definetly have a high risk of having iron overload.

So what should you do? I personally don’t like meat of any kind…besides bacon…BLT’S are my best friend….but I have been lately eating a lot of white flour foods and I absolutly love eggs. I also was taking a multi vitamin that has iron in it. So here’s when the Ferratin Blood Test comes in.

Ferritin isn’t the same thing as iron in your body. Instead, ferritin is a protein that stores iron, releasing it when your body needs it. If you do not have enough ferritin in your blood or you have too much, it can give your doctor clues about your overall iron levels. The more ferritin in your blood, the more stored iron your body has.

Your doctor may order a ferritin test if you have some of the following symptoms associated with low ferritin levels:

  • unexplained fatigue
  • dizziness
  • chronic headaches
  • unexplained weakness
  • ringing in the ears
  • irritability
  • leg pains
  • shortness of breath

You can also have very high ferritin levels, which can cause unpleasant symptoms as well. Symptoms of excess ferritin include:

  • stomach pain
  • heart palpitations or chest pains
  • unexplained weakness
  • joint pain
  • unexplained fatigue

Ferritin levels also can become elevated as a result of damage to your organs, such as the liver and spleen. The test also can be used to monitor your overall health, particularly if you have an iron-related condition that causes you to have too much or too little iron in your blood. (healthline).

Infertility

Hemochromatosis can lead to infertility in both men and women if it remains uncorrected for some period of time. In both sexes, a part of the brain called the hypothalamus regulates production of pituitary hormones that are critical for reproductive function. These hormones, called LH and FSH, are made in both men and women. They control the menstrual cycle, hormone production and ovulation in women, and sperm development and testosterone production in men. In hemochromatosis, excess iron can build up in the hypothalamus or the pituitary, and sometimes in both locations. The iron damages cells in these areas, LH and FSH production slows or stops, and the testes or ovaries stop functioning, a situation called hypogonadism. If hemochromatosis develops in a child or adolescent, it can cause failure of sexual development at puberty. In adults, a woman might stop ovulating and menstruating, and a man can have low testosterone and produce few sperm. Both sexes might also experience a decrease in libido, or sex drive, due to decreased production of sex hormones, and women with the disorder could enter menopause especially early (livehealthy).

Other Symptoms

In its early stages, hemochromatosis often causes no obvious symptoms. Eventually, however, iron deposits in joints might cause arthritis and joint pain, and cardiovascular problems might develop due to iron deposits in the heart and blood vessels. Iron stored in the pancreas, which secretes insulin, could eventually cause diabetes, and excess iron in the liver can raise the risk of liver disease such as cirrhosis. In severe cases, skin color might take on a bronze tinge because of iron deposits in parts of the skin. If hemochromatosis remains untreated for many years, it can cause life-threatening damage to the body’s organs and systems (livehealthy).

The ferritin test requires only a small amount of blood to accurately diagnose your ferritin levels (healthline).

Your ferritin blood test results are first evaluated to see if your levels are within normal ranges. According to the Mayo Clinic, the typical ranges are:

  • men: 24 to 336 nanograms per milliliter
  • women: 11 to 307 nanograms per milliliter (Mayo Clinic, 2012)

I did some more research and I found a really good company where I am going to order my Ferratin Level Blood Test very soon. If you don’t have health insurance this company can be espiecially good for you as well. The company is called Direct Labs (I will put the website down below) and you can order your tests only. The price for a Ferratin test is $49.00. After paying for that test you should print out your reciept and go to a LabCorp facility ( the only place that is connected with direct labs tests) and get the test done. You don’t have to pay for anything else at the LabCorp facility but the gas to get there because you would have already paid for the lab test you wanted from Direct Labs online…remember that radical reciept! Anyways. here is what the Ferratin Blood Level Test says on the Direct Labs website:

Ferritin
Fasting Required: No

Specimen: Blood

Results: 2 Business days

Description:
Composed of iron and protein, Ferritin is a storehouse for iron in the body. The ferritin test is ordered to assess a person’s iron stores in the body. The test is sometimes ordered along with an iron test and a TIBC to detect the presence and severity of iron deficiency or iron overload. In the early stages of anemia, the iron levels may be normal but the stored iron is being depleted and the ferritin level decreases. In iron overload, the ferritin level increases (directlabs).
