Every stage of our lives brings in a new set of advantages and disadvantages that may either beset you as a curse or a challenge, that is, depending on how you perceive these inevitable changes. Turning 50 is no exception.

At one end, it’s a dreaded decade because of the onset of physiological changes that limit the way you move, even of the way you think.  On the flip side, you can also look forward to regaining much of your freedom of movement having already graduated from at least two decades of raising your children.  All of a sudden, you have all the time in the world to pursue the dreams that you have set aside for years.  Question is, will you have the same energy at 50?

What to expect in your 50s

Contrary to popular belief, turning 50 calls for more than simply incorporating an anti-aging product, like the first of its kind, Rodan + Fields Redefine Acute Care Review.  Don’t be surprised at the possibilities when you turn 50.  Below are 6 things you need to know about how your body behaves at this age:

1. Muscle and bone loss.  If you’ve been exercising regularly when you were younger, good for you.  You will lose muscle and bones at a slower rate but, you’ll still lose them as you age.  The key remedy is to keep exercising regularly.  Support your muscles in gaining back lost muscle mass sooner.  Women are at a higher risk for developing osteoporosis at this age as well.

2. Slower metabolism.  This could be the main reason why you look and feel bloated more frequently.  As you age, your body needs lesser amounts of nutrients and energy.  At the same time, at 50, your body is not as efficient in breaking down your food and distributing it to replenish cellular energy as it used to when you were younger.  That means you should eat less and always make it count.  Adding more fiber to your diet should also relieve you of bloatedness and  indigestion.

3. Drier skin.  Once you’ve reached 50, looking up question on how to get rid of blackheads or acne will be the least of your concerns.  With drier skin, your issues shift more towards developing wrinkles and age spots.  Moisturizing with topical creams will be helpful, and you should more specifically look for retinol.

4. Slower rate of cell recovery.  Cells throughout your body are moving towards deterioration and senescence.  Once your cells have reached their maximum cell division capacity, there can be no turning back.  Then, diseases and conditions associated with old age begin to manifest.  There is little that you can do to stop the intrinsic ageing factors but, choosing to turn your back on your vices will give you a significant lead.

5. Loss of memory.  Memory gap at 50 is no laughing matter.  It can lead to Alzheimer’s and can endanger the health and safety of the affected individual and his or her family members.  Stay sharp by staying physically, mentally and socially active.

A study conducted in 2008 and published in the American Journal of Public Health concluded after observing a representative sample of American elderly population that social integration delays memory loss. So, go out have lunch or coffee or late night games with your friends.  Don’t ever stop meeting new people because there is scientific evidence that shows your friends help keep you stay sharp

6. Limited movements.  One of the most challenging aspects of aging is not being able to do the things you used to do ever so easily.  It may be time for you to retire from basketball games but that doesn’t mean you should hold back your athletic interests either.  Look for lower impact sports that won’t damage your joints or ligaments.

Conclusion

Keep these 6 changes in mind if your 50 or about to enter this new decade of your life.  You should celebrate the wisdom, wonderful memories and good people you’ve shared unforgettable moments with, and not waste time lamenting over your lost youth.  Sit back and relax because your life is about to get even better.
