Study Proves: Heart Disease Is an Early Form of Vitamin C Ddeficiency

The most noteworthy effect of this process is related to the Lipoprotein(a) molecule. It functions as a repair system whenever vascular walls are impaired by vitamin C deficiency. When a deficiency in vitamin C becomes chronic, this repair process can begin to take place continuously in the body. Atherosclerotic deposits are eventually created, paving the way for strokes, heart attacks and other cardiovascular issues.
The latest research from the Dr. Rath Research Institute used transgenic mice due to their ability to mimic human metabolism in two key ways: they do not produce their own vitamin C internally, and they produce Lipoprotein(a) as a way of compensating for this.
When the mice were fed a diet containing insufficient amounts of vitamin C, their bodies naturally made Lipoprotein(a) to repair the vascular walls. As a result, they developed atherosclerosis and heart issues.
Adequate vitamin C supports cardiovascular health and overall health
Researchers found that the level and degree of heart disease was directly related to the subjects’ intake and blood levels of vitamin C. The mice that ingested the highest amounts of vitamin C had the least amount of Lipoprotein(a) produced to repair their arteries. As a result, they had the most minimal atherosclerotic lesions and the strongest hearts.
The researchers have come to the conclusion that vitamin C could be the key to avoiding heart disease and cardiovascular issues. While having healthy HDL and LDL cholesterol levels is still important, it may not be as foundational to heart health as was once believed.
