Training Made Fun, Personal Trainer Certification Requirements
The health and fitness industry continues to to grow, and the need for personal trainers to meet the increased need makes now a great time to launch a personal training career. Every day, personal trainers work with their clients, inspiring and pushing each individual to achieve their exercise goals.
What do I need to be a personal trainer?
Being a personal trainer is a great way to make a living if you are someone who is passionate about exercise and enjoys helping other people. It can be a bit hard to figure out the best way to get started as a personal trainer.
In order to become a personal trainer in the UK, you will need the following four things:
Level 2 Gym Instructor Qualification
The level 2 gym instructor course (also known as a fitness instructor course) is the starting point in the careers of most personal trainers and other fitness industry professionals. By itself, it entitles one to work as a gym instructor for health club, gym or any other kind of fitness establishment in the UK and in many other countries.
Level 3 Personal Trainer Qualification
The level 3 personal trainer course results in Personal Fitness Training Certification, and entitles a person to work for themselves as a personal trainer in the UK and in many foreign countries.
First Aid Certificate
The first aid certificate, sometimes known as an Emergency First Aid at Work qualification, is a Health and Safety Executive (HSE) recognized training course. It teaches personal trainers how to perform basic first aid in case any of their clients should sustain an injury during training, and is valid for three years before it will need to be renewed.
Personal Trainer Insurance
Personal trainer insurance is not technically a legal requirement, but it would be extremely foolish for anyone to work as a personal trainer without it. If someone under the supervision of a personal trainer is hurt or injured during the course of the individual’s training, if the trainer does not have an insurance policy in place, he or she would be personally liable for any compensation that would have to be paid to the injured client.
How do you succeed as a personal trainer?
After you have your qualifications and your insurance sorted out, there is no limit to where your career as a personal trainer might take you. Since you are now self-employeed, how you run your business is very important. You will have to decide what kind of personal trainer you want to be and what kind of clients you want to work with, but more important, you will need to market yourself and get clients, in order to succeed.
