(Before It's News)

DEBKAfile was founded by a team of journalists in June 2000 as an independent Internet Web site, providing an intelligence and security news service. September 22, 2016, 1:41 PM (IDT)

Iraqi army forces, along with Sunni militia fighters, captured the center of the city of Al-Shirqat, located about 100 km south of Mosul, from the Islamic State organization on Thursday. Planes from the US-led coalition provided air cover for the operation. Iraqi army reports said ISIS fighters had abandoned Al-Shirqat's hospital, city hall and a number of other public buildings in the center of the city, but others are still fighting against the army forces from within civilian homes or in small groups.

Our unique angle on these subjects – and strong intelligence dimension – has earned DEBKAfile a global reputation and a steady readership – which skyrockets in times of crisis.
