While parts of Florida are still seeing high winds of 100+mph, the eye of Hurricane Matthew Friday remained offshore in the Atlantic, so that flooding from high seas on the Atlantic was becoming the worst threat to communities on the beachfront and further inland. More than 460,000 people were told to evacuate their homes. The hurricane was heading overnight through North Florida and Jacksonville up to Georgia and South California. The Caribbean suffered severe ravages from Matthew before the gusts headed to north to continental America. The worst hit was Haiti with a death toll rising to 842.

Our unique angle on these subjects – and strong intelligence dimension – has earned DEBKAfile a global reputation and a steady readership – which skyrockets in times of crisis.
