Democrat Tim Kaine and Republican Mike Pence, the running mates of US presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, debated each other on Tuesday night at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia. The two candidates spent most of the one-and-a-half hour event attacking the presidential candidates of the other party. Kaine questioned Trump's ability to serve as commander-in-chief of the US armed forces and lead the country, citing the manner in which Trump relates to immigrants and neighboring countries, as well as Trump's previous claim that President Barack Obama was not born in the US. Pence, meanwhile, accused Clinton of poor management of foreign policy when she served as secretary of state and claimed that the fund run by her family received donations from foreign countries. The topic of Israel was raised in the context of the nuclear deal with Iran, with Kaine asserting that the agreement was backed by Israel and the IDF Chief of Staff, Lieut. Gen. Gady Eisenkot, while Pence pointed out Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu's opposition to the deal.
Our unique angle on these subjects – and strong intelligence dimension – has earned DEBKAfile a global reputation and a steady readership – which skyrockets in times of crisis.
