House Speaker Paul D. Ryan asked Donald Trump not to attend a campaign event with him Saturday at his home state of Wisconsin, as fellow Republican office-holders slammed the candidate, some calling for him to resign, for the disclosure Friday of a 2005 tape, in which Trump made lewd remarks about women.
The disclosure came 48 hours before the second debate between Trump and his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton.
In a midnight tape, Trump apologized for the 11-year old remarks picked up from a hot mike, in which as a reality TV star he bragged about groping, kissing and attempting to have sex with married women — and said he was entitled to do so because he’s a “star.” The tape was released Friday night,
”I've said and done things I regret, and the words released today on this more than a decade old video are one of them,” Trump said in the video statement Friday night. “Anyone who knows me knows these words don't reflect who I am. I said it, I was wrong and I apologize,” he said. He added: “Bill Clinton has actually abused women and Hillary has bullied, attacked, shamed and intimidated his victims,” Trump said.
“We will discuss this more in the coming days,” Trump said. “See you at the debate on Sunday.”
Our unique angle on these subjects – and strong intelligence dimension – has earned DEBKAfile a global reputation and a steady readership – which skyrockets in times of crisis.
