Counterterror forces from the Turkish police raided an apartment in Ankara's Etimesgut neighborhood early Wednesday morning and shot dead an ISIS terrorist who had barricaded himself there. The forces had earlier ordered the man to surrender but he refused so they broke into the apartment, sparking the brief exchange of fire in which the terrorist was killed. Large amounts of explosives and weapons were found on the scene. Concern has risen recently over possible terrorist attacks in the Turkish capital, with the governor of Ankara issuing an order over the last few days barring demonstrations or unapproved large-scale gatherings in the city until the end of November.
Our unique angle on these subjects – and strong intelligence dimension – has earned DEBKAfile a global reputation and a steady readership – which skyrockets in times of crisis.
