US President-elect Donald Trump has learned the lessons from the manner in which the American media covered him for the last 18 months, and decided after two recent meetings with the press not to avail himself of their services and to communicate directly with the American people via social networks. Besides his daily use of Twitter, Trump is using a YouTube channel set up by his official transition team to communicate important messages. On Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving, Trump posted an address to the American people on the occasion of the holiday. “When America is unified, there is nothing beyond our reach–and I mean absolutely nothing,” he said, adding “It's my prayer that on this Thanksgiving we begin to heal our divisions.” Citing Abraham Lincoln, the 16th American president, Trump said “In declaring this national holiday, President Lincoln called on Americans to speak with one voice and one heart. That's just what we have to do.” As for the rifts in the country following the election, Trump said “Emotions are raw and tensions just don’t heal overnight….but we have before us the chance now to make history together to bring real change to Washington, real safety to our cities, and real prosperity to our communities.”
Our unique angle on these subjects – and strong intelligence dimension – has earned DEBKAfile a global reputation and a steady readership – which skyrockets in times of crisis.
