President elect Donald Trump pledged the US would quit the TPP on his first day in office in a video message outlining his actions in his first 100 days in the White House. The TPP trade deal was signed by 12 countries which together cover 40% of the world's economy. Japan responded that without the US, the pact had no value.
“On national security, I will ask the Department of Defense and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to develop a comprehensive plan to protect America's vital infrastructure from cyberattacks.
“On immigration, I will direct the Department of Labor to investigate all abuses of visa programs that undercut the American worker.”
He also promised to abolish “job-killing restrictions” on coal production imposed by Barack Obama, make every new government regulation contingent on the elimination of two existing ones, implement a ban on executive government officials acting as lobbyists for five years after they leave their jobs and a lifetime ban on them lobbying for a foreign government.
But there was no mention of repealing Obamacare or building a wall on the southern border with Mexico, two actions he said during the campaign he would do as soon as he assumed power.
