At least 22 people were killed and 70 wounded in twin bombings during rush hour Tuesday outside the Afghan parliament in Kabul. Most of the victims were civilians including parliament staff. A Taliban spokesman claimed responsibility, saying members of the Afghan intelligence agency were targeted. Afghan sources said a district head of the National Directorate of Security – Afghanistan's main intelligence agency – was among the dead. Reports spoke of a suicide bomber on foot followed by a car bomb.
Our unique angle on these subjects – and strong intelligence dimension – has earned DEBKAfile a global reputation and a steady readership – which skyrockets in times of crisis.
