Exit poll on UK vote: Theresa’s party is first, but short of majority

Exit polls project Prime Minister Theresa May’s Conservatives as coming out of the snap election she called for Thursday as the largest party with 314 seat,  but the loss of 17 seats may cost her a majority in Parliament. Opposition Labor led by James Corbyn is predicted to win 266 seats – a substantial rise of 34; while the Liberal Democrats gained six seats and the Scottish National Party is forecast to lose 22. The Lib Dems announced instantly that they won’t join a coalition under May. In ten days, she is due to lead negotiations with the European Union for the terms of Britain’s exit from the group. She had counted on an expanded parliamentary majority to strengthen her hand in the tough bargaining ahead.
