(Before It's News)

On Wednesday, the 28th of September, members from the UCLA and other YAL chapters congregated around a 12 foot diameter beach ball in Bruin Plaza, the hub of UCLA, and encouraged passersbys to write whatever they desired on the ball.  The event was in part an attempt to trigger administrative action regarding free speech outside of the designated “free speech zone” known as Meyerhoff Park, a tiny patch of grass near Bruin Plaza.  Though no members of the university administration confronted activists about the event, YAL did receive a great amount of attention from both students and faculty responsible for news publications on campus, signatures on a petition to abolish speech codes on campus, and sign-ups for the UCLA chapter of YAL.
