(Before It's News)

The Deep Web is a misunderstood computer network that has been used by people all over the world to maintain the free flow of information. Although it has a reputation for being a marketplace for shady activities such as drug dealing and hitman services, the Deep Web is used by journalists who live in totalitarian countries to publish and collect information.

The screening of The Deep Web documentary at SDSU was met with great fascination. Students who attended the screening had a vague idea of what the Deep Web was, but they left with the understanding that it is a powerful tool for spreading the ideas of liberty. Countries such as China and North Korea have restricted internet use, preventing people from openly exchanging thoughts online. The Deep Web allows them to circumnavigate through these restrictions, returning a bit of transparency back to its citizens.
