YAL at UL chose to take a slightly different angle with our YLYR event; we decided to bring Harambe into this. Such shocking imagery really attracted people to our booth, and it opened a lot of thoughtful discussion on gun-free zones, or as we like to call them, “self-defense-free-zones”. It was also a great way to gain publicity for our chapter. I heard multiple people talking about it around campus that I had never met before. Just about everyone who stopped by had to take a picture with the gorilla suit. It was a very successful event, and we gained nearly fifty signatures.
